Candle Flames

“Candle Flames” by deadpoet88

~*~*~

It was the candle flames that led
Me down the path of destruction.
The flames were dancing, inviting,
They were full of deception
Giving false hopes of warmth
At the end of a long winding road
When all that they led to
Was a cold dark cliff, crashing waves below,
And a silent jump into infinity.
While the dark path, less taken,
Led to that warm soft bed
And a roaring fire, a paradise,
Unheard of, never felt,
As the road leading there
Was cold and unlit.

  1. I always thought candle flames can do a lot … including leading you to the wrong road, beautiful they are, but dangerous! How well you’ve described it … Perfect! The muses have been dancing with you these days …

  2. “While the dark path, less taken,
Led to that warm soft bed
And a roaring fire, a paradise,
    Unheard of, never felt,
    As the road leading there
    Was cold and unlit.”

    FABULOUS!

  3. It is so true that often in life the things that appear attractive and desireable end up making us feel miserable and unsatisfied. It is probably one of life’s biggest challenges to identify the path which will take us to true happiness because, as you say, that path is “cold and unlit”. Thought-provoking poem πŸ™‚

  4. Two choices, the best seemingly obvious but leading to despair,… I felt I was actually staring into the candles light, bb, watching it flicker … Very emotive poem …. had me flickering like the candle flame, one which looks as if it’ll go out any second, but then decides to have a list ditch attempt at being a full blown blaze….. xPenx

  5. Whew.. this caused some cold sweat beads to form at the back of my neck, girl..

That candle sure has a way of leading us on.. no!?!
You said it all too well here… *sigh*.. *applause*
