Fear

Scream

~*~*~

Bow down to your fears in awe,
Quickly take out an iron dagger,
And stab each one to death.

For fear is merciless when touched
By the breath of a coward,
Cruel and demented, when eyes shy away.

Fear cuts at the slightest sign of weakness,
Like no scar a knife can leave,
The will breaks, scattering like shards of glass.

Fear seeps silently through the darkness of the mind,
Ubiquitous is its hunger,
As even the faintest trace of light is extinguished.

Fear is carried by the wings of the wind,
Like a parasite, growing larger,
As it drains the life from the body of its host.

Thus, give in to fear, but let fear not know
The face of a craven,
Lest a wish to be scourged for eternity lies on your lips.

For fear cuts deeper than sticks and stones. *

* This line is not entirely original. The original line is “Fear cuts deeper than swords” by George R. R. Martin in his A Song of Ice and Fire series. I found that line very inspiring, though the concept of this poem came to me far before I read the series.

  1. Brilliant piece

“Fear is carried by the wings of the wind,
    Like a parasite, growing larger”

    loved these lines

  2. after taking the bow, if there are more than one fears, and i kill the first one, i think the other ones will kill me.

  3. “For fear hides in lies and shame,
In love, in life and in memory lanes.

Its fear that lives and not the man..
So kill it all while you can”..

    Awesome piece. 🙂 Once again!

  4. dear deadpoet,

you are waxing philosophy on this one. i had read from one of the buddhist books as before “no one can rule you inwardly”. i think, this was true. it is our choice if we let fear grip us and take away the vitality in us to live for another day with hope. what you have written about fear, is a timely reminder that sometimes we need to stand up and face head-on the evil masks of fear. not doing so, may create in us the biggest nightmare each night, as we cower in the darkness even in broad daylight.

a masterful poem. thought provoking and life defining topic that challenges us to think forward.

    all the best to you.

    1. I believe fear does nothing but destroy something positive in us. I have experienced how overcoming one’s fear brings so much positivity, and there is so much more that we can do once we overcome them. Of course, there is a fine line between bravery and insanity, but living in fear is the worst of it all. We cannot let fear take over our mind, as that is exactly what it does once we give into it. Fear is a greedy thing, once it knows it can scare you, it keeps asking for more.

Thank you Marvin. All the best to you too.

    1. @Anurag Your lines are so meaningful, you should really consider becoming a writer.

Thank you about the template, I am still wondering whether this is any good or not. I kind of like it though.
